Alright, let's dive into this Страттон Маунтин: Уютный Лагерь Черного Медведя - Забронируйте СЕЙЧАС! thing, shall we? Buckle up, because this ain't your usual sterile hotel review. This is gonna be… well, по-русски, let’s just say that.
First, the name itself… "Cozy Black Bear Camp". Sounds promising, doesn't it? Like some charming little cabin in the woods. Let's see if the reality lives up to the мечты.
Accessibility & Techie Stuff –
Okay, so we’re talking wheelchair accessibility. That's HUGE. Not all places get this right, and it's a real pain in the… you know. Also, important to note that the elevator is available, because not everyone wants to climb endless stairs after a long day of… whatever you do at Stratton Mountain.
They advertise Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! and Internet [LAN]. So, you basically covered there, right? Now, let’s address a real-world problem: Internet services can be like a Russian roulette. You pray for good connection, because as a modern human, it's extremely annoying without a working internet!
They also provide Wi-Fi in public areas. So, yes, technically they are ready for the future and the internet.
Cleanliness & Safety – Безопасность прежде всего (especially now!)
This section gets a big, железный thumbs up. Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer, Rooms sanitized between stays, and Staff trained in safety protocol – This is more than reassuring, it’s essential. These days, you want to know your hotel is taking things seriously. The physical distancing of at least 1 meter is also good and reasonable, though let's be real, who actually measures?
And, the best thing: Room sanitization opt-out available. Amazing! They are flexible and accommodating with every taste.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking –
Right, the most important part, because голод не тётка (hunger spares no one). They have a restaurant, which is a basic. Also, They offer a Breakfast [buffet] including Asian Breakfast with Asian cuisine in restaurant. That's unusual and interesting. The Poolside bar is a плюс. Imagine, sipping something cold while watching the sun set over the… well, I haven't been there, but you get the idea. Even they offer Vegetarian restaurant for people, that not want to eat meat.
We’re talking A la carte in restaurant, Coffee/tea in restaurant, and possibly a Snack bar. They even give you Bottle of water.
One thing that really stood out: Room service [24-hour]. Sometimes, after a long day, you just want to order something and chill.
Services and Conveniences – To make your stay easier
There's Air conditioning in public area (thank God!), a Concierge service (always helpful), Currency exchange, and – halleluiah – Daily housekeeping. They provide Facilities for disabled guests. Another plus: Food delivery. And, of course, a Gift/souvenir shop.
For the Kids –
They are Family/child friendly, so that helps a lot. They have Babysitting service and Kids meal. Perfect for families traveling with children.
Things to Do – Отдыхаем! Relax, Rest, Enjoy!
This is where it gets good, or at least, where it has the potential to. Let's start with the obvious: Fitness center (gotta work off that buffet!), Gym/fitness, Swimming pool. And there’s more! They got Spa! So we can relax in Sauna, Steamroom, and the Body scrub, Body wrap, Foot bath, Massage and Pool with view. That is an impressive list.
Available in All Rooms – Your Personal Fortress
Okay, let's be honest, the rooms are where you spend the bulk of your stay.
- Air conditioning (essential).
- Blackout curtains (a lifesaver if you like to sleep in).
- Coffee/tea maker (because утро без кофе – не утро - morning without coffee isn't morning).
- Complimentary tea, Free bottled water.
- Internet access – wireless, Internet access – LAN.
- Refrigerator, Mini bar, and Satellite/cable channels.
- Shower – I hope it's a good one with decent water pressure!
- Wake-up service.
- Wi-Fi [free] (obviously).
- Window that opens, and a Desk.
And for all those other fun things (like bathrobe, phone, etc.).
The Imperfect Truth: My Own Experience (or What I'd Hope to Experience)
Okay, let's imagine…
Picture this: it’s a bitterly cold winter day, the wind is howling outside. I’m exhausted, after a long drive. I finally drag myself through the front door, and I just want a warm room, a hot shower, and maybe something to eat. The internet better work, because I need to work, and I need to connect with the world.
I will check into my room. Open the window that opens just a crack to let in some fresh air. I quickly change, and rush over to the fitness center (that is not very important for me, but for the sake of the review, I will pretend to be a fitness fanatic)
Returning to my room, I would relax. In order to enjoy and use the bathrobes provided, I would turn on the wake-up service for the morning to be sure, I will not oversleep. I will call room service [24-hour] and order something hearty. And before I fall asleep, I would go online, and write my friends and family, making sure that I am safe and sound.
The next morning, after waking up, I would go downstairs to the Breakfast [buffet] and try everything that is there. After my meal, I would take a few hours to visit a spa. And in the evening, maybe I would call them and order for me Desserts in restaurant.

Alright, товарищи, let's get this Stratton adventure planned! Forget those sterile brochures, this is my Stratton trip, and it's gonna be a beautiful, messy, glorious disaster. Let's just try to get through it without losing my boots (again).
Black Bear Lodge, Stratton Mountain - The Chronicle of a Mad Skiing Woman (and Her Friends)
Day 1: Arrival and (Attempted) Relaxation -
- 13:00 (ish) - Landing in Burlington, Vermont (BTV). God, the flight. Tiny, bumpy, felt like I was crammed into a tin can with a bunch of screaming toddlers. Thank heavens for the in-flight vodka (a little bit of liquid courage to face the impending weather forecasts).
- 14:30 - Car Rental Chaos. "Yes, I reserved a…a sedan? Are you sure? With four-wheel drive? Because the weather lady…she meant business." The rental place was a madhouse. The guy behind the counter looked perpetually hungover. Managed to snag something resembling a car, eventually. Pray for us.
- 16:00 - Road Trip to Stratton. The drive. Ah, the drive. Scenic, they said. Beautiful fall foliage. If you could see it through the torrential rain. It's autumn. October. I'm wearing a hat, I think. We started singing Russian folk songs, naturally. "Kalinka, kalinka, kalinka moya!" (Kinda gets you through anything, really.)
- 18:00 - Check-in at the Black Bear Lodge. The good part. Lovely. Smell of pine, fireplace roaring. Cozy, even with the damp, grey chill clinging to my boots. The suite… amazing views of the mountain, even through the fog. (Optimistically, the fog will lift.)
- 18:30 - Unpacking and the Great Sweater Debacle. I packed way too many sweaters and not enough of the essential items. Which are…I don't know. Forgot toothbrush, as usual. Found the emergency stash of chocolate hidden in my backpack. Crisis averted.
- 19:00 - Dinner at the Bar. "I need fuel." Ribs and beer. Comfort food is key. A rather boisterous conversation with my friends about the meaning of life and the proper technique for eating a rib. A small disagreement about who will do the dishes (I will not).
- 21:00 - Attempted Relaxing by the Fireplace. "Attempted." The fire's flickering, the wine is going down smoothly, and… I'm already plotting tomorrow's ski runs. Specifically, the steepest ones. Maybe. Probably. Then I was texting my mother (again) about my questionable life choices. This is normal. Okay, time for… Zzzzzzzz
Day 2: Mountain Mayhem and the Existential Dread of Skiing
- 07:00 - Wake-up Call: The Cold Embrace of Stratton. It's freezing. I feel as though I need a cup of tea, stat.
- 07:30 - Breakfast Buffet Battle. A free-for-all. Waffles, bacon, and a desperate grab for coffee. Staring at the ski report…cloudy with a chance of… I can't even say it.
- 08:30 - Gear Up and the Uncomfortable Truth. Finding everything in the right bag. And finding my ski pants. And making sure I have the right gloves again. One of the girls realized she rented the wrong boots. Sigh…we're working with the "rental gear" crew.
- 09:30 - The Slopes! (Sort Of). It's cold, really cold. And foggy. Visibility…zero? We made an attempt. My first run – a solid faceplant into the snow. Right. That's how we're starting. The fear is real. The humiliation is even more real.
- 10:00 - Skiing: The Therapy Session. Lots of yelling, swearing, and questionable maneuvers by all of us. But the views, when they peeked through the cloud cover, were stunning. That moment where you feel like you're actually flying… that's what makes it worth it. Right? Right. Maybe.
- 12:00 - Lunch Break: Warming Up the Soul. Hot chocolate. Potato soup. And more swearing. The bar at the lodge. Always a solid choice.
- 13:00 - Round 2: The Steep Ones. (Maybe) Okay, so I may have exaggerated about the steep ones. (Okay, I didn't get past the bunny slope.) More faceplants. More giggling. More questioning of my life choices.
- 15:00 - The Great Retreat. The cold got us. Let's go back.
- 16:00 - Après-Ski: The Healing. More wine. More laughter. Maybe a hot tub?
- 19:30 - Dinner: Post-Ski Slump. I'm never going to ski again. I’ve decided that every ski day will be my last ski day.
- 21:00 - Bed. Exhausted, exhilarated, slightly bruised, and probably slightly sunburnt. I like living.
Day 3: Sunday Funday and Saying Goodbye (For Now)
- 07:30 - Another Morning. Wake up and feeling better, though still remembering the humiliation of the slopes. Coffee. Think I might try the spa?
- 08:30 - A small walk. The resort looks beautiful.
- 10:00 - Prepping to leave. Packing the car, checking out of the suite, and saying goodbye to the mountains.
- 14:00 - Flight. Back home. A whirlwind of memories. More thoughts on the trip.
Final Thoughts (and a Few Tears, Maybe)
Stratton, you beautiful, maddening mountain. You tested me, you challenged me, and you gave me memories I'll treasure forever. Even the falls. Even the cold. Even the near-miss with the bunny slope. This trip was never planned for perfection, and it surely wasn't. It was a messy, ridiculous, wonderful adventure with the best friends I could ever ask for. Until next time, Stratton. I have to get back to the everyday life now. But I want to get back… Do svidaniya! (Goodbye!)
