Okay, buckle up, because we're about to dive headfirst into the world of Отель Marriott Columbus OSU – and it's gonna be a wild ride! Forget cookie-cutter reviews, we're going full-on душа нараспашку (soul exposed), warts and all. Let's see if they really are the "Best Rooms and Secret Discounts!"
First Impressions (and the Quest for the Perfect Wi-Fi, Damn!):
Alright, first things first, landing in Columbus, feeling like a crumpled piece of paper. Travel, you know? Immediately, the accessibility got a good test - I'm always a bit anxious about that, let's be honest. They've got it, thankfully – Facilities for disabled guests, an Elevator, and a general sense of "we're trying." That's a good start. Now, the Wi-Fi. I'm a digital nomad, a фрилансер (freelancer) – Wi-Fi is life. And, thankfully, they're shouting about Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! and Wi-Fi in public areas. Thank God! No, wait, there's also Internet and Internet [LAN]? For those of us who barely remember what a LAN is, this is promising! Let's hope the connection holds up better than my last relationship. The Internet services are probably solid, but I'm more concerned with my Instagram feed. Wi-Fi for special events – well, I guess if they're throwing one, they got that covered, too!
Rambling about Safety and Cleanliness - Or, The Germophobia in Me:
Okay, deep breath. Let's talk about the elephant in the room: the aftermath of… you know. Cleanliness and safety. Anti-viral cleaning products? YES, PLEASE! Daily disinfection in common areas? Music to my paranoid ears! They’re also doing Rooms sanitized between stays, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Room sanitization opt-out available (smart!), and Staff trained in safety protocol? Okay, now they are speaking my language, which is the language of "don’t get sick, please!" The Hand sanitizer stations are a must, and the Cashless payment service? Necessary. Individually-wrapped food options? Okay, that's good for breakfast, I guess…
The Food… The Glorious, Potentially Greasy Food! (and my love-hate relationship with hotel breakfasts):
Breakfast! This is where hotel experiences either soar or crash-land in a greasy heap. Breakfast [buffet]? Sigh… it's tempting, but I'm always the one who ends up with soggy bacon and regrets. Breakfast in room? Breakfast takeaway service? Now we're talking! They have both Asian breakfast and Western breakfast! I bet they do the whole buffet thing. The Restaurants are key. Coffee/tea in restaurant? Coffee shop? Thank goodness for my morning caffeine addiction. I need my coffee! A la carte in restaurant? Good for dinner. There's Room service [24-hour]? Desserts in restaurant? This is the ultimate test. Will they be serving delicious pastries or sad, stale cakes? Snack bar? Gotta love a good snack bar, am I right? There's a Poolside bar. Imagine yourself, a cocktail. I love a good poolside bar! Vegetarian restaurant? Always a plus. Is there a Happy hour? You know I love a Happy hour.
The Spa… and the Quest for Ultimate Relaxation (aka, my attempt to not be a stressed-out mess):
Okay, let's talk relaxation. Because after the trip and the anxiety I need that so, so much. Spa… Sauna… Steamroom… My ears perked up at Massage, and Foot bath! A Body scrub and a Body wrap? I'm considering it. They really need this, maybe I should let them have it to see. And, of course, there's a Swimming pool and Swimming pool [outdoor] and Pool with view! All of these, hopefully, are a great way to relax.
The Little Things (and the things that make a difference):
Air conditioning? Air conditioning in public area? Essential, especially in this humidity! Daily housekeeping is a must. Desk and Laptop workspace crucial for the фрилансер. Desk is a must as a фрилансер. Hair dryer is a lifesaver. Ironing facilities (because I can’t iron) and Ironing service are a godsend. Mini bar? Tempting. Room decorations? I hope they are good, because I want it to be fancy! Wake-up service? Okay, I need that, as I'm not good with timetables.
The Rooms… The Promised Land! (Let's hope they deliver):
This is where it all hinges. They are advertising Лучшие номера (Best Rooms), right? So, here are the room Available in all rooms, Air conditioning, Alarm clock, Bathrobes, Bathroom phone (seriously, what is that?), Bathtub, Blackout curtains (thank heavens!), Closet, Coffee/tea maker, Complimentary tea, Daily housekeeping, Desk, Extra long bed (yes, please!), Free bottled water, Hair dryer, High floor, In-room safe box, Internet access – LAN, Internet access – wireless, Ironing facilities, Laptop workspace, Linens, Mini bar, Mirror, Non-smoking, On-demand movies, Private bathroom, Reading light, Refrigerator, Safety/security feature, Satellite/cable channels, Scale, Seating area, Separate shower/bathtub, Shower, Slippers, Smoke detector, Socket near the bed, Sofa, Soundproofing, Telephone, Toiletries, Towels, Umbrella, Visual alarm, Wake-up service, Wi-Fi [free], Window that opens Additional toilet Interconnecting room(s) available…
The Annoying Bits (Because Let's Be Real):
I hate the standard of travel. Front desk [24-hour] is essential, obviously. Luggage storage is fantastic. Car park [free of charge] is amazing. They also have Cash withdrawal. I never get Invoice provided.
The Verdict (and My Attempt at Persuasion):
Okay, listen up, дорогие друзья (dear friends)! Marriott Columbus OSU, from what I can tell, seems promising. It’s got the basics covered, a few little luxuries, and a serious focus on staying safe and sound (which, frankly, is my main priority these days).
Here's my honest pitch:
Are you a digital nomad, freelancer, or someone who needs to work remotely? You need fast, reliable internet. They have the coverage, let's hope the speed isn't a nightmare.
Worried about safety and cleanliness? Then this is your place. They are taking things seriously, it seems. Also, they serve it with anti-viral cleaning products!
Need to relax? The spa could be your savior. I'm very excited about my potential Body scrub.
Want to be comfortable? They have a sofa, bathrobes, and, hopefully, good air conditioning.
I'M GOING TO TRY IT!
And, most importantly: They might really have "Secret Discounts!" So, for the love of all that is holy, check for them! Because traveling is expensive, but a good hotel experience? That's priceless, especially if it doesn't break the bank.
P.S. I'll be checking back in with an update. Wish me luck I hope I will get a good experience, and I can share more insights after my stay. Stay tuned, друзья! Wish me luck!
Alright, here we go… my attempt at a Marriott Columbus OSU escapade. Get ready, because this ain't your glossy travel brochure! This is the real deal, with all its glorious imperfections.
(Day 1: Columbus Landing & Jet Lag Battle)
(Somewhere mid-flight, Moscow time… ugh) - Feeling like a pre-caffeinated zombie. The air is stale, the kid behind me is kicking my seat, and I'm pretty sure I saw a glimpse of my soul escaping my body. (Columbus Landing!)
16:00 (4:00 PM) Columbus Time: Marriott Check-In - The Initial Assessment - Наконец-то приехали! (Finally arrived!) Found the Marriott. The lobby is… well, it's a Marriott. Polished, a little generic, but hey, clean bathrooms, right? Check-in was painless, thankfully. The front desk guy seemed genuinely happy to see me (or maybe he just really loves his job. I envy him). My room… standard. A bed, a desk, a TV that I'm pretty sure is older than I am. But whatever, it's a place to crash. My stomach is growling from the flight food so, that needs sorting out STAT.
17:00 (5:00 PM) The Great Food Quest - Время есть! (Time to eat!) I'm starving and jet-lagged. This is a dangerous combination. I wandered around the hotel a bit, feeling utterly lost and overwhelmed by choices (yes, even with the limited options). Ended up at the hotel's restaurant, because my brain couldn't handle walking further. Decided to order a burger. Basic, but a safe bet on my current mental state.
18:00 (6:00 PM) Burger Verdict & Early Bedtime - The burger was… ok. Nothing spectacular, but it hit the spot. I had to restrain myself from ordering a whole cheesecake to myself, because my biological clock is still in Moscow. Now, bed. Jet lag is kicking my butt worse than I thought. Setting four different alarms! (Just in case).
OSU & The Buckeye State Blues? (Day 2: OSU Exploration & Buckeye State Blues?)
07:00 (7:00 AM) Wake Up…Ish - Блин, проспал! (Shoot, I overslept!) Or did I? My body is still on Moscow time, which makes every moment an adventure in existential despair. Grabbed some (surprisingly good) coffee from the hotel lobby. Fuel, needed more fuel!
08:00 (8:00 AM) The OSU Campus Scavenger Hunt (Sort Of) - Decided to be a "responsible tourist". Time to explore the Ohio State University campus. Stumbled across a really beautiful campus – the architecture is impressive, and there's an undeniable sense of energy (and probably a whole lot of frat parties happening). I got lost… a lot. Found myself staring at some giant statue of some guy, who I probably should know, but don’t. 🤷♀️
11:00 (11:00 AM) The Ohio Stadium Experience (Mostly by accident) - I walked in the wrong direction and ended up near the Ohio Stadium. It is HUGE. Really, really huge. It dwarfs everything around it. Imagined the roar of the crowd during a game… must be insane. The thought of trying to find a parking spot during a game made me break out in a cold sweat. Decided to avoid the actual stadium tour.
12:00 (12:00 PM) Lunch: Trying Something "Local" - Found a little diner-like place off-campus. They had something called a “Buckeye Burger.” I had to! It was… good! Greasy, cheesy, and perfectly American. Definitely, a good way to ruin my attempt at eating a balanced diet
13:00 (1:00 PM) The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium (A Tiny Adventure) - I'll be honest, I haven't been to a zoo in ages. I can't even believe I'm saying this, but I went to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. It was…okay. The animals seemed alright, and they were not trying to bite me. I was distracted by a group of screaming children. What is it with kids and zoos?
16:00 (4:00 PM) Back to the Marriott. Meltdown prevention - The zoo was kind of mehh. Decided to walk back to the hotel and contemplate life a bit. This is where I think my travel starts to go sideways. I'm starting to get into it.
19:00 (7:00 PM) Dinner & Questionable Choices - A decision fatigue, and an over-ambitious plan to try an "authentic" American restaurant. It was a place with a lot of loud music… and a lot of deep-fried food. I made a grave mistake and ordered a whole plate of fried jalapeno poppers, and some awful fried shrimp. I feel guilty and sick. This is the moment I realize I can’t fit into my jeans anymore. Oh, the humanity! 😭
21:00 (9:00 PM) Bed: The Endless Loop - Sleep. More sleep. Perhaps I'll wake up in a better mood tomorrow, or at least not feeling like I've swallowed a deep-fried sea creature.
День 3: The Columbus Comeback (Or Not)
08:00 (8:00 AM) The Breakfast Saga. - Attempt at a healthy breakfast. I try to tell myself I'm going to cut back on the carbs, have some yogurt with berries, and maybe a piece of toast. End up with the toast, a waffle, and a side of bacon.
09:00 (9:00 AM) The Art Museum (A Little Culture, Maybe?): I went to the local art museum. It was pretty cool, I guess. Modern stuff. Saw some paintings that I didn't get at all, and some sculptures that made me scratch my head. But, whatever, I'm trying.
12:00 (12:00 PM) Lunch: The Redemption Attempt - Found a nice little cafe. Ordered a salad. Had to fight the urge to order a giant burger again. Feeling slightly less like a giant greasy mess. Victory?
14:00 (2:00 PM) The Ultimate Regret: Retail Therapy - I was bored and lonely. So, I needed to go into a shopping mall. I started looking at things, and then I saw the perfect thing. A pair of boots. I got them. I have no idea why. I don't even know where I'm going to wear them… but I bought them anyway. (Crying on the inside).
17:00 (5:00 PM) The Marriott Bar: A Quiet Moment - I've been drinking since last week. I'm not proud, but I’m also not going to lie. I had a glass of wine at the hotel bar. Watched the news. People were watching. Nothing special, but I am starting to feel better.
19:00 (7:00 PM) The Final Dinner: The Sad Goodbye and the airport Blues. - Dinner alone at…the hotel restaurant again. I’m exhausted and I would order a pizza. But I try to be a little good. I order a salad and some grilled chicken. Tomorrow, I’m leaving Columbus. And I’m feeling a little melancholic.
(Final Ramblings):
(About Columbus): It was… an experience. Some good, some bad. Mostly, it was a weird combination of jet lag, questionable food choices, and a general sense of not knowing what I was doing. It was fine.
О Marriott (About the Marriott): A perfectly adequate hotel. Nothing exciting, but comfortable enough. The staff were nice, and the bed was comfy.
(The Main Thing): I got out. I saw something new. I survived my own, personal travel chaos. And maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to get back into those jeans when I get home. Maybe…
The most important thing: I survived. And that’s a victory.
Otel Iskat
